passage
site-responsive installation
handmade paper, 3' to 6' in diameter hung on dowel armatures with monofilament and wire.
In this site-responsive installation, an area of suspended paper circles mimics being underwater, subtly sloping in height from the tallest points in the hallway at about 10 feet to about 7 feet high at the other end of the gallery space. For the exhibition it was first included in, passage functioned as a transition between another installation (Always, Only, Ever) and a video installation (here we end. here we begin.)
We hover just under the surface, at a distance that suggests being close to or just out of reach of breaking through.
